There's not much that Jolyon hasn't accomplished in New Zealand, he's a DJ, music producer, magazine publisher, party promoter & big time party animal.
His musical background started over 13 years ago playing the piano & drums in school orchestras & funk, ska bands. It wasn't until the late 90's till Jolyon started honing his skills over the decks & playing parties in the under ground rave scene.
Dj'ing in back bars of clubs & parties, Jolyon's reputation for spinning up sexy swingin' beats were getting him more work around town, by 2000 he had already Dj'ed in most of the bars around Auckland and his profile was getting bigger. March 2000, Jolyon launched Infusion magazine into the Auckland club scene.
The fortnightly magazine is often referred to by people in the know as the only NZ dance bible; covering dance events, nationwide gig guides, photos, interviews and much more.
This also came at a time when Jolyon was discovering his love for all styles of dance music, often being booked as a party Dj, playing House, breaks, prog & Trance. Having such an open mind to playing all forms of dance music opened up bigger challenges for him, such as the politics in the scene. However this did not deter him from sometimes playing 3 multi genre gigs a night.
Hassling promoters to give him a set worked in favour one day when he was asked to become a resident Dj at the famous Bed nightclub on K-Rd. This was his first major club residency.
His all time favourite support acts were for the Together gig where he played alongside Grand master Flash, Armand Van Helden & Junior Sanchez on the main stage of the St James. Plus he toured with Groove Armada live In concert.
Jolyon played main stage at Slinky New Years two years in a row educating the huge crowds with his blends of House, breaks into trance. Both years saw him play to over 2000 people in the main room at the Auckland town hall, and the first year 2001/02 he played four hours on the main stage. Not many other top local Dj's can boast those kind of honours.
In June 2002 Jolyon & Sam Hill took 'Pure n' Sexy out of the club & onto the road, with a complete Nationwide tour taking in Auckland, Tauraunga, New Plymouth, Ohakune, Wellington, Christchurch & Queenstown. The tour was a huge success. Two months later Jolyon was asked to mix his first CD for dance event company 'One Green Apple' and was back on another comprehensive nationwide tour promoting his mix CD with fellow Dj Andy Day, the CD sold over 3000 unit's.
The CD started off Jolyon's career in music production as he recorded a track for the CD. 'Calling 2002'
Then 2003 was a busy year for him, playing at Two Tribes, Slinky Planet, Chemistry, Unity, Vibes on a summers day, Ourhouse. Pure n' Sexy moved to 'Suite 16'(Which is now Code NightClub). Jolyon also toured around the country on various gigs.
2004 saw Jolyon's music production talents come to fruition with remixing an ELO classic tune 'Evil Women', & passing on a copy to superstar Dj Judge Jules, not knowing he was going to drop it main stage of the huge dance festival 'Homelands & live on BBC Radio1. Along with this great achievement for this upcoming producer other Dj's around New Zealand were playing his tunes Peter Urlich, Sam Hill, Roger Perry & more. Jolyon Also took up Residency at The Met Nightclub & soon had a regular following on a weekly basis mixing his own productions up throughout his sets, setting dance floors alight where ever he played.
2005 saw Jolyon leave his residency at The Met to become the booking agent for night clubs Starzz & Velvet Underground. His productions as Sound Conducterz are lighting up dance floors around the world with Dj's In Cyprus, Dubai & New Zealand playing his tunes. Some Dj's that are playing his tunes in 2005 are Dick Johnson, Peter Urlich, Sam Hill, Karn Hall, Javed Haider, Andy Barr, General Lee, Grant Marshall, Emma Green & Jarrod Phillips, Sample Gee, Philippa, Phully.
2006 Jolyon has established himself as one of Spy Bar's resident DJ's, playing to a packed club almost every weekend. Earlier in the year saw him play at one of NZs biggest dance festival's - Summadayze, supporting Roger Sanchez, Benny Benasi & Bodyrockers. Plus supporting at other parties ATFC, Syke n Sugarstarr & Stonebridge. More recently jolyon played a massive set in the House room at Slinky with a packed set from start to finish...
Keep an eye out for Luxury Records this year as Jolyon & a few of his producer friends launch a joint New Zealand & Australia Record label, which will also help in touring down to this region many top House internationals. Jolyon will be touring to the northern hemisphere to help promote his first remix release for Stoney Boy Records in July/August.
